The 360º Challenge offers a new adventure: it will be held entirely in La Gomera

The challenge moves to San Sebastián de La Gomera and will be held from 24 to 28 November 2021

The WAA 360º has already revealed the first of its great unknowns. After the opening of the registration period, in which the location of the challenge was not revealed, the organization is now able to confirm that the 2021 edition will be held entirely on the island of La Gomera.

Thus, this 360º The Challenge sets out to discover a new adventure. The organization will be the responsibility of the companies Arista Eventos and Gomesport, the company in charge of races like the Gomera Paradise Trail. Both organizers will work hand-to-hand with the City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera, the event’s main sponsor. The city’s mayor, Adasat Reyes, has been fully involved in the task of receiving the race, and is happy to state that “it is an honor for us to place La Gomera at an international level with his event, as the city of San Sebastián and the island’s name will travel all around the world”.

The event will also count with the collaboration of the Cabildo de La Gomera and Promotur – Canary Islands, who are delighted to receive an event of international significance and classified as one of the hardest in the world. In addition, WAA continues as a sports sponsor and Fred. Olsen Express will be the official transport provider, as they will offer a free transfer from the meeting point in Los Cristianos (Southern Tenerife) to make an easier connection to La Gomera. The rest of the itinerary will be soon disclosed.

This challenge will allow runners to discover an island that is unknown to the foreign public, which has accounted for a large percentage of the participants in this event over the last five years. La Gomera is one of the smallest islands in the Canary Islands, with just over 20,000 residents, but with an extraordinary natural setting for mountaineering: more than 600 kms of trails, 1,500 meters above sea level, the Garajonay National Park as the jewel in the crown – listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site – and the unique Laurisilva forest with hundreds of endemic species.

The race will have its epicenter in the capital of the island, San Sebastián de La Gomera. The town will host the bib collection on November 23rd, the start of the challenge on the 24th and the finish line, which will be open until 28 November. The route will cross the island in the purest 360º style with constant ascents and descents for a brutal kilometrage and climbing. As always, details of the route will be revealed a few days before the race.

Registration started last June, and is limited to just 200 places in order to guarantee a personalized follow-up and security display for the participants. In the next few days more details will be given about the meeting point for the participants, who will face this challenge with the usual characteristics of the 360º: a route with no course marking at any of its points, the only help of cartography and GPS and the life bases that they will find along the route of La Gomera where they will be able to recover.

La Gomera begins the journey of this WAA 360º, which will set out to discover new adventures due to the variety of landscapes and features that the Canary Islands have to offer.
